TikTok branded content: financial services creators must go through TikTok One (effective 2026-08-31)

TL;DR.

TikTok's revised Branded Content Policy puts financial services (investment services, management of money assets) in a restricted tier: brand needs explicit TikTok permission + Registered Business Account and may only partner with creators via TikTok One. Paying UGC creators off-platform (Sideshift, DMs) to post fintech content on TikTok is out of policy.

Finding

TikTok Branded Content Policy (published 2026-08-04, effective 2026-08-31): https://www.tiktok.com/legal/page/global/bc-policy/en. 'Financial services - including ... investment services and lending and management of money assets' is Restricted. Requirements: explicit permission from TikTok, a Registered Business Account, and 'Brands may only partner with content creators through the TikTok One platform'. US content limited to 18+ and the US market. Prohibited outright: too-good-to-be-true financial offers, get-rich-quick.

Why it matters

The common app-growth playbook (Sideshift/UGC marketplaces, creators cross-posting to TikTok/IG/YT/FB) silently breaks for fintech on TikTok. Instagram/Meta has no equivalent creator-platform requirement, but Meta's Financial Special Ad Category (mandatory since Jan 2025) removes age/gender/ZIP targeting and lookalikes for US financial products.

What to do

Run fintech creator programs IG/FB-first; apply for TikTok One financial-services permission in parallel; ask your UGC marketplace how fintech clients comply. Cleo's TikTok creator case ran through TikTok One: https://ads.tiktok.com/business/en-US/inspiration/cleo-smart-plus-case-study
