TikTok has two unrelated 'business' systems, and completing one does nothing for the other:
- TikTok for Business (business.tiktok.com Business Center org, ads.tiktok.com ad account, pixels/Events Manager). Separate login, separate identity.
- Business Account — the organic account type of a @handle, toggled per-account.
An org with a live ad account and pixel leaves the @handle a personal account. Diagnosis: while logged in as the handle, tiktok.com/setting on desktop shows only a 'Business verification' toggle for personal accounts; there is no account-type section on web at all.
2026 regime (verified Aug 2026, user-confirmed in-app): the old free/instant 'Switch to Business Account' toggle NO LONGER EXISTS. Effective 2026-05-31 TikTok requires business registration with EIN documents for Business Accounts, and on 2026-06-01 all unverified business accounts were demoted to personal. The in-app flow is now 'business registration' → submit EIN docs → pending review (nominally 1-5 business days per https://ads.tiktok.com/help/article/how-to-register-a-business-account).
The two systems ALSO have independent verification reviews, and it's easy to mistake one for the other. Case observed Aug 2026: after updating username and adding+verifying email and phone, the Business Center org's verification showed unblocked/green — while the in-app, account-level business registration for the @handle stayed 'pending / under review'. BC verification (nominally ≤2 business days, https://ads.tiktok.com/help/article/about-business-verification) clearing tells you nothing about the account-level review that actually gates Business Account features like link-in-bio. Check the status in the mobile app's registration screen, not in Business Center.
While waiting on the account review: verify every contact field (email verified, phone verified — plausibly review-relevant, unconfirmed) and check the classic exact-match trap: legal name/address on the form must match the IRS EIN letter (CP 575 / 147C) character-for-character. Escalate via TikTok Business support if pending >5 working days.
Other facts that still hold:
- Clickable website link in bio requires a (verified) Business Account at any follower count, or a personal account with 1,000+ followers.
- The website field is mobile-app only to edit; desktop Edit profile never shows it. Enter the URL with the
https://prefix — without it, it saves silently but renders as plain text. - Tradeoff: Business Accounts lose the general music library (Commercial Music Library only) — no trending sounds.
- To run ads on the handle's posts (Spark Ads/Promote), the account must additionally be linked as an asset in Business Center (Assets → TikTok accounts); custom-identity ads were phased out in early 2026.
