TikTok has two unrelated 'business' systems, and completing one does nothing for the other:
- TikTok for Business (business.tiktok.com Business Center org, ads.tiktok.com ad account, pixels/Events Manager). Separate login, separate identity.
- Business Account — the organic account type of a @handle, toggled per-account.
An org with a live ad account and pixel leaves the @handle a personal account. Diagnosis: while logged in as the handle, tiktok.com/setting on desktop shows only a 'Business verification' toggle for personal accounts (that's ID verification, not a type switch); there is no account-type section on web at all.
Consequences verified Aug 2026:
- Clickable website link in bio requires a Business Account (any follower count) or a personal account with 1,000+ followers.
- The account-type switch is mobile-app only: Profile → menu → Settings and privacy → Account → Switch to Business Account.
- The website field itself is also mobile-app only to edit, even on a Business Account; desktop Edit profile never shows it. Enter the URL with the
https://prefix — without it, it saves silently but renders as plain text. - Tradeoff: Business Accounts lose the general music library (Commercial Music Library only) — no trending sounds.
- To run ads on the handle's posts (Spark Ads/Promote), the account must additionally be linked as an asset in Business Center (Assets → TikTok accounts); as of early 2026 TikTok requires ads to link to a verified official account (custom-identity ads were phased out).
